Ted Cookson
Representative of Conference Co-Sponsors

Ted Cookson began collecting the stamps of Pitcairn Islands and Norfolk Island over four decades ago.  He joined the FRIENDS of PITCAIRN Yahoo! Group on June 5, 2000, its nineteenth day of existence, and attended Bounty-Pitcairn Conference 2005 in St. Petersburg, Florida.  With his wife, Barbara Stein, he had the pleasure of hosting Pitcairn Islanders Tom and Betty Christian at their Hollywood, FL home during the Christians' U. S. tour that year.  Mr. Cookson cruised to Pitcairn three times between 2000 and 2003, and he has also traveled to Norfolk Island three times.  He attended a London meeting of the Pitcairn Islands Study Group (UK) in 2010.

Mr. Cookson served as vice president of Pitcairn Islands Study Group (PISG) for four years from 2007 to 2011 and as president for two years from 2011 to 2013.  As PISG president he helped to organize Bounty-Pitcairn Conference 2012 and also assisted in the digitization of some of PISG's out-of-print publications.  (He helped to arrange for PISG to offer the entire run of the The Pitcairn Log and PISG's out-of-print monographs on DVD for sale at BPC 2012.)  A PISG member since 1978, Mr. Cookson assisted in manning PISG's table at the American Philatelic Society's annual StampShow from 2006 through 2012, inclusive.

Mr. Cookson has traveled to 316 of the 321 destinations on the list of the Travelers Century Club of Los Angeles.  As a frequent international leisure traveler with a strong interest in Pitcairn and the Bounty Saga, he found that he had been frustrated on more than one occasion to have discovered only after the fact that there had been an artifact of interest in a distant city that he had visited.  It was then that he realized that he ought to compile a list of institutions and monuments which could not only guide him in his future travels but could also benefit other travelers with similar interests.  Begun in 2004, a preview edition of Mr. Cookson's monograph, Pitcairn Island and the Bounty Saga - Institutions and Monuments:  A Worldwide List of Related Archives, Churches, Gardens, Houses, Libraries, Monuments, Museums and Ships, finally made its debut at Bounty-Pitcairn Conference 2012.  This 50-page reference work reveals where over 100 Pitcairn- and Bounty-related artifacts can be viewed in the U. S. and around the world.
